Supriti always wanted to live in South Kolkata. She was brought up in this part of the city, and her relatives and friends largely live there.
Because of her insistence, Rajat agreed to buy an apartment near Southern Bypass. Rajat and Supriti were quite comfortable in their new home when something happened.
Rajat’s office shifted to Salt Lake Sector 5 from Park Street, and traveling to the office daily became somewhat challenging.
Rajat’s sister Swarnali, who lives in South Kolkata, will also benefit from the upcoming Kolkata Metro Orange Line.
Her in-laws stay in Salt Lake, and going to their homes on occasion is a trouble. The Airport-Garia Metro will make it easier for her to travel to her in-laws’ homes in air-conditioned comfort.
Better, Faster Connectivity
Currently, it is often difficult to travel to the Rajarhat New Town area. Public transport, especially cabs, is inadequate. It is very difficult to get a cab to go to New Town from South Kolkata.
Even app cabs are not of much help despite their exorbitant fares.
The situation becomes worse at off-peak hours and night.
Under these circumstances, Airport Garia Metro is expected to be of great to commuters who want to go to New Town. The journey will be fast and comfortable.
A good number of working people who stay in South Kolkata now need to go to Salt Lake Sector 5 and New Town every day.
Once the Kolkata Metro Orange Line is operational, their traveling cost will decrease and the uncertainty of cab availability will be a thing of the past.
The Network Effect
The Airport Garia Metro line connects Line 1 (Blue Line) at Kavi Subhash Metro Station.
It currently operates between Kavi Subhash (New Garia) and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby Hospital).
Presently, this has amazing advantages. You can now travel to Dakshineswar from Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (near Ruby Hospital) in traffic jam-free air-conditioned comfort by changing lines at Kavi Subhash.
It is also easy to travel to Kasba and Anandapur area from New Garia by Metro.
The stretch between Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Beleghata will be operational soon.
When fully operational, it will connect with the Green Line at two stations: IT Centre and VIP Road (Haldiram) and the Yellow Line at Airport.
The Yellow Line (Noapara to Barasat) will make traveling to North 24 Parganas completely hassle-free. It will be easier for the people of these areas to approach New Town and Salt Lake.
At Kavi Subhash, the rail Interchange will also be available (Sealdah South Section).
The Orange Line will make traveling to the Airport and even Barasat from New Garia a breeze. Moreover, residents of these areas will find it easy to travel to New Town and Salt Lake Sector 5.
It will be easy to change lines and travel to Howrah from New Town.
This will help create a comprehensive Metro network in Kolkata. Over time, communication will improve massively in Kolkata.
The Orange Line
The Orange Line will connect New Garia with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. Moreover, it will pass through two satellite townships of the Kolkata metropolitan region — Salt Lake and New Town.
This line will be one of the most important stretches of Kolkata Metro because it will connect the southern and eastern parts of the city with Kolkata Airport. The total distance of this route will be 29.87 km (18.56 mi).
It will help to reduce travel time between the southern fringes of Kolkata to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and will have 23 elevated stations, 1 underground station, and 1 at-grade. The terminal station, the Airport, is the underground one.
Real Estate Impact
The Orange Line, when fully operational will hugely perk up connectivity in New Town, Salt Lake, and the adjacent areas.
For example, it will be easy for anyone staying in Chinar Park to take the Metro instead of depending on road transport.
It will be easier for the employees of various companies in Salt Lake and New Town to go to the office every day.
Besides, the Metro line will connect New Town with the Green Line and by changing lines, one can easily go to Esplanade or Howrah. This will be much faster than traveling by road.
Increased Metro connectivity always boosts the real estate market along the Metro corridor.
It will be no different here too.
Property prices will go up as and when this Metro corridor is fully operational. The day is not far away as construction activity is going on in full swing.
